As part of its major campaign to encourage more people in the UK to take up motorcycling and get their full licence, the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCI) has launched a brand new website – www.takeyourbiketestnow.com

With changes to the UK motorcycle test, which have been brought about by Europe’s 2nd Driving Licence Directive (2DLD), set to cause a rise in the number of people taking their tests before it comes into force in late 2008, the new site contains all the relevant information for anyone interested in taking their bike test.

MCI’s Craig Carey-Clinch said: “2DLD is going to have a major impact on the motorcycle industry. The good news is that new elements to testing and training will help riders understand more about the capabilities of their bikes. However, the prospect of increased training costs and a reduction in the number of test centres across the UK (from 260 current centres to around 60 or 70), it is going to make it much harder and more expensive to undertake the necessary training.

“Our message is clear. We are encouraging anyone thinking about getting their motorcycle licence to do so now. Whether you are a current non-rider looking to do your CBT or an existing CBT holder wanting to take your full licence, this website has been designed to provide you with all the information you will need in one, easy to find place.”

The new site contains all the latest details on 2DLD legislation, such as an image to illustrate the more complex manoeuvring procedures UK riders will have to undertake at ‘super test centres’ that the Government is currently building around the country. These new manoeuvres will include a slalom, figure of eight, 30kph circuit ride and 50kph hazard avoidance.

To complement this, the website includes a ‘Which Licence?’ section, detailing the types of licenses available for motorcycles, mopeds and scooters and useful links to the DSA and DirectGov websites for theory and practical test information respectively.

Visitors can also use the ‘Training’ section, which includes information on finding the right training school or useful tips for choosing a trainer. The ‘Test Centre Locator’ provides visitors with a link to www.dsa.gov.uk , where they can simply type in their postcode to find a list of their nearest training centres.
