If guests can post in the forum you will still get spammers.
It's that simple.
Also I couldn't log on using Steve's instructions.
Says I am not using the correct password.

Also says my username name was not found in the database.

Were it me I would just open a PHP server account, it's the most popular forum engine and works well.
Just saying.

And FFS when you click on the user list, even when you're not registered, it gives the details of the forum members, including their real names.

That IS not good website security.

Hey Jaq,

Updates just for you...

Guests can no longer post in the forum.
Nobody can see your real name.

After you setup a new account you will see this:

"Your account has been created and activation link has been sent to the e-mail address you entered. Note that you must activate the account by clicking on the activation link when you get the e-mail before you can login."

Any questions email me.

Hope you enjoy the new forum mate.

Cheers

Jeff

Looks like it's working, Jeff.
I hope this makes things a lot easier (but I wonder....).

I've done a lot of banning of late, all of it to folks who took the time to register. Will this new method submit potential users to any king of scrutiny before they're accepted? The reason I'm asking is that immediately after I registered, I received my acceptance letter.

Just wondering....

Steve

Thanks for the updates Jeff.
Just testing to see if this post loads.

There doesn't seem to be anywhere for forum members to list their locations?

The Karma thing: They tried that for a year or so on a South African bike forum. It alienates some people. You make a post the majority disagree with and you get bad karma.
Or you just post up in a way most others think is unsubtle...and you get bad karma.
It can often outweigh whatever good karma you might get.
I reckon it's kinda childish myself, so I'll say right now, I'll never give out karma to anyone, good or bad.
if I don't like what someone posts I'll just say you're a twit right up front.

Cheers: Jaq.

Well I'm in Sydney myself, which is a tad removed from South Africa.

But I can tell that in SA they are having an awful winter. It snowed all over the country a couple of weeks ago.

To see what biking in SA is like go to www.wilddogs.net.za and check out their great ride reports section.

Here in Syd it's a little fresh in the morn and at night.
But I still ride to work everyday.

Compared to a UK winter, this is like your summer.

Is there anybody out there?

Is anybody interested in this website?!

I don't think you've got anything to worry about with regards to people being interested in the web site. I think the biggest problem is that the weather all over the world is totally out of wack. I mean snowing in SA and here in the UK it's done nothing but rain almost constantly and has cause enourmous flooding all accross the country.

Obviously all this strange weather has taken it's toll on peoples plans and rides and adventures have been either put on hold or cancelled altogether.

There have been more than a few rallies here that have had to be moved to different sites and a lot cancelled because they couldn't find an alternative site, all due to the flooding.

Last year by this time we had been having weeks and weeks of almost constant sun and good weather, the total opposite to this year.

I think just about everyone is suffering in some way from this years strange weather which is why there is so little happening on here.

I'm guessing that another thing is that anyone who had an adventure or trip planned will be out and about on them trying to slip into any good weather they can find.

I do know that around the medeterainian has been pretty good for the last couple of weeks or so cos a couple of friends have just got back from there. So maybe, with a bit of luck, there will be some people returning pretty soon with stories and photos for us.

I'm not too sure about all the other aspects of the board but there is a limit on just how much can be said in some of those areas and again waiting for reports about equipment etc is just another down side of people being out and about.

I would be off out if I had the finances to do it now but I'm stuck being a virtual adventurer for now unfortunately.

Lets just hope a little patience will pay off soon.

Chris.
